Annexe and Remodel Bosham

This single-storey timber-framed home had a very shallow felt-covered roof that was leaking in several places. Installing conventional roof tiles would have required the walls and roof structure to be substantially rebuilt, making it an unnecessarily costly solution. Instead, the roof was renewed using GRP with a raised roll detail, providing a durable finish suited to its shallow pitch.

The original wall cladding was removed and replaced with a smooth rendered finish, while natural timber cladding was introduced to the new gable ends. A substantial front extension created an annexe for other members of the family.

Bringing natural light into the deep, sprawling plan was another important consideration. Carefully positioned roof windows were introduced throughout, with selected areas of flat ceiling opened up to form individual vaulted sections containing groups of roof windows. This created brighter, more characterful spaces without requiring the entire roof structure to be replaced.
